The Initiative

“Pizza for a Smile” is an initiative that intends to create an impact in communities by donating freshly made pizzas, prepared with the best ingredients, talent and resources, and positively influencing the dynamics and spirit between givers and receivers of kindness, with a focus on dignity. "Pizza for a Smile" initiative springs to life in each community, bringing groups together, inspiring and sharing smiles, practicing kindness, and understanding the impact of daily small gestures on someone's being.

The Inspiration

The inspiration for “Pizza for a Smile” arose from an episode in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the fall of 2021, a father and his then five-year-old son, Sebastian, were waiting in line to get a pizza. Before them, there was a crying little girl and her mother, who was trying to see if she had the $14 needed to buy a pizza. Sebastian approached the little girl, like a child would, to say that he would happily share his pizza with her. As it turned out, the girl’s mother had enough money to place her daughter’s pizza order.

With pizzas in hand, the two kids gave the pizza maker the biggest smiles anyone has ever seen, and sat next to each other on a park bench, enjoying their fragrant and delicious pizzas.

It was in that moment of harmony, created by the sharing of food, that Sebastian's father was inspired to develop an initiative that would offer pizzas as a way to nurture people in need, and that not only would nourish the body, but also would lift the spirit. 

In March 2023, Sebastian and his father watched the entire series of the Netflix popular series called “Chef Table: Pizza.” It presented four world-famous pizza chefs, who had reinvented the way pizza is created and served. The headliner of the program was Chris Bianco.

​​​​​​With the naïvete that only a child could have, he asked his father if he could meet Chris. It was at that moment that Sebastian's father began to ask himself, “What if Chris Bianco, perhaps the most famous Pizza maker in America, would become a part of the initiative?”

Thanks to mutual friends, Sebastian and his father were finally able to meet the legendary Chris Bianco, who welcomed them at his famous pizzeria in Phoenix.

After Chris heard their vision for the project, he readily agreed to become its spokesperson, and it was on that day that the initiative finally had its name: “Pizza for a Smile”.

When you donate to the “Pizza for a Smile” campaign, you will enable one or more disadvantaged families to receive nourishing food. Every $20 donation will help us delivery a 12-inch pizza to be given to a person that is unable to afford one.
